My History
After a successful career of teaching at the college/university level, I created my private piano studio to bring my experience to individual students with more time for singular attention to the specific needs of each individual student. It's a commitment I make to every student at my studio.
After study with local teachers here in the Pittsburgh area, my formal college education began as a scholarship student at the Juilliard School of Music and winner of the Ezarman Drake Award upon graduation. I went on to earn a Masters Degree in Musicology at Catholic University of America and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Piano Performance from West Virginia University as a graduate assistant. As a special student at the Peabody Conservatory, I was honored to be a student of Leon Fleisher, the famous pupil of the legendary master teacher Arthur Schnabel. Thereupon, followed several years of teaching and eventually tenures of administration of departments of music and programs in the arts at various colleges and universities including Marshall University, Arizona State University and Duke University.
My public performance career began as Piano Soloist with the U.S. Navy Concert Band/Orchestra in Washington, D.C. with subsequent concerts at colleges and universities throughout the U.S. I also became heavily involved with musical theater and served as music director and conductor for several professional summer stock theater companies.
Locally, I've served the piano community as President of the Steinway Society of Western Pennsylvania and Director of the Piano Division of the Tuesday Music Club. I'm also a member of the Pittsburgh Piano Teachers Association.
